Your pack

Press I to open your pack, called the Satchel. Your worn gear is shown at the top and your carried things below it. Click an item to use it or put it on. Hover over it for a description.

Alt-click an item to lock it. Ctrl-click to mark it a favourite. Locked items cannot be sold or dropped, and favourites are skipped when you sell and listed first. The Sort button tidies your pack and merges stacks.

Right-click an item to drop it. If you are at a shop it sells instead, and at the bank it is deposited. Potions, food and junk stack to 99.

The Satchel has three tabs. Pack holds your things: 24 slots at first. Materials is your Materials pouch: every material you loot, gather, craft, buy or are sent goes there instead of the pack, up to 999 of a kind and 60 kinds (anything past that goes to the pack). Crafting, quests, shops, trades, letters, the market and the bank all use it. Right-click a material to sell it at a shop, put it in the Material Vault at the bank, offer it in a trade or list it on the market; at a banker, "Send all to Material Vault" empties the pouch in one click, and taking materials out of the Vault puts them back in the pouch.

Quest items has the things your quests gave you or asked for. They take no room, cannot be sold, traded or dropped, and each shows which of your quests needs it and how many. Materials a quest wants are marked with a ! in the Materials tab.

A bigger Satchel: a Stitched Satchel makes it 30 slots and a Wayfarer's Pack 36, for good, for that character. Fíona gives the first when you lay the Echo beneath the Standing Stones (What Sleeps Under the Ring), Pádraig the Reeve the second (The Salt Road), and tailors can make both at a workbench.

At any shopkeeper, Sell junk sells all your junk at once (vendor trash, trophies and curios; never locked or favourite items). It shows the total first; what you sold stays on the buyback list for the visit. Esc > Settings > Gameplay > Loot all skips junk leaves junk on the ground when you use the loot-all key.

The consumable bar sits left of your hotbars: drag a potion, food, a tome or a scroll from the Satchel onto one of its two slots. It shows how many you have left and the potion cooldown, and keeps its item when you run out (it greys out). Click it or press Q / R (Esc > Settings > Controls); right-click clears it. It is saved with your character.

Your Purse shows your gold. It is shared with all your other characters on this server.

The search box above the Satchel, the bank, shops and Crafting finds things by name (accents do not matter) or by kind and rarity: try "potion", "ore", "sword" or "rare". What does not match fades; nothing moves. Esc or × clears it. The Journal and the Legend have a filter box too.

Gear, rarity and bands

You can wear armour in ten places: head, shoulders, chest, hands, waist, legs, feet, neck and two rings. Critical chance and accuracy on gear (rings) count in full on top of what Dexterity gives, up to a 40% critical chance in all. In the off hand a focus strengthens spells and a relic strengthens heals. A Monk fights best with fists (knuckle-wraps) or a staff: both hit harder in a Monk's hands, and the staff adds a little armour. Armour comes in cloth, leather, mail and plate, and each class can wear certain kinds. The only gate is the item's required level. There are no hidden stat tests.

Items have a rarity, shown by the colour of their name and border: common, fine (green), superior (blue) and rare (purple). Gear is also made for a band of levels, every ten levels from 20 to 90, and at the top for level 100 in four bands: Wayworn, Veteran, Masterwork and Pinnacle. A higher band is somewhat stronger.

Binding is shown on the item. Some things bind to you when you pick them up. Others bind when you put them on. Bound items cannot be traded or mailed. Items you did not make come with a note of where they came from. Gear is personal: when a boss drops loot, each player gets their own.

Equipment wears down when you suffer True Death. The smith repairs it.

There is no gear score anywhere in Hallowmyr.

Weapon sets and the off hand

You have two prepared weapon sets, shown side by side in your Satchel with the one in hand lit. Press X (or click the other set) to swap. Swapping is free and works in a fight, but not while you are casting; in a fight you cannot attack or use abilities for half a second afterwards.

To fill your second set, swap to it, then click or drag the weapons in. Your stats, reach and look always follow the set in your hands.

Weapon abilities need the right weapon in hand: bow shots (Heathershot, Nightjar Volley, Hawk's-Eye Barrage, Fieldcraft Shot) need a bow, and a Rogue's blade work (Shinnick Cut, Gloaming Lunge, Hundredwing Flurry, Backbone Cut) needs a melee weapon. They grey out on your hotbar when the set in hand cannot use them; the tooltip says what they need. A Rogue can open with a bow shot from range, press X, and finish with daggers. Learning your first bow ability hands you a plain bow in your second set if you have none.

Click a weapon to put it in your main hand. Shift-click a weapon or shield to put it in your off hand. Two-handed weapons use both hands. Some classes get less out of shields: a Wayfarer's shield blocks only half as well.

Weapons come in families, such as swords, axes, spears, bows and staves. Different families suit different classes. Some creatures are a little weak or a little resistant to certain kinds of damage, so a second set for different foes can be useful.

Potions and meals

Click a potion in your pack to drink it. All emergency potions share one cooldown, about a minute and a half, so you cannot chain them. Alchemists and shops sell them.

A meal gives one long, modest bonus: faster recovery of health and mana out of combat and a little more top health, for about an hour. Click a meal to eat it. A new meal replaces the old one. A meal stays with you through death and has no link to the potion cooldown. Cooks make the best ones.

Tooltips tell you exactly what a meal or potion does.

Shops: buying, selling and buyback

Click a shopkeeper to open their stock. Click the price of an item to buy one. You must stand close to the shopkeeper.

To sell, right-click items in your pack while the shop is open. Shops pay a quarter of an item's value for gear, potions and junk, and half for raw materials. Locked and favourite items are never sold. Anything a craftsperson makes sells for less than the materials in it are worth, so crafting cannot be turned into a cash trick.

The Buy back list shows what you sold this visit, up to twelve things. You can buy them back for the price you were paid. The list clears when you leave.

Smiths sell gear for your level band and the one below. You find them in Greenhollow, Dunhallow, Tanner's Lodge, Stiltwick, Ardcarrow, Inishcorr, Cragwatch, Winterhearth and Emberwatch (most work in the town store or smithy). Better gear comes from creatures, dungeons, quests and crafting. The last quest of each land pays gear of the tier you are about to enter.

Bank, Vault and Wallet

Every town has a banker: Bríd in the Greenhollow Moot Hall, Aoife in the Dunhallow Counting House, and a clerk at the counter of the store or lodge in Kelp Strand, Stiltwick, Ardcarrow, Inishcorr, the Marchgate, Tanner's Lodge, Cragwatch, Winterhearth and Emberwatch. They all keep the same bank. Talk to one and choose the bank. Your Character Bank has 48 slots and belongs to one character. Right-click a pack item to deposit it, and click a bank item to take it back.

The Material Vault is shared by all your characters on this server. It holds a great many of each material, and Shift-right-click deposits materials straight into it. "Deposit all materials" empties your pack of them in one click. Crafting reaches into your pack, the Vault and the Bank, so you do not need to carry materials around.

Your gold is in the household Wallet, also shared by all your characters on this server. The Purse number in your pack and at the bank is that Wallet.
